Mixed Media and Collage with Paint |
|
My imagery comes from the fringes of agricultural regions in California, the Midwest and Bangladesh--all places I have called home. Architectural patterns emerge from the odd geometric shapes of distant crop and livestock fields and there is a challenge to capturing the distinct undulations of the prairie's gentle drama through plays of light, land and expansive skies.
The organic beauty of the Midwest prairie--my current home--is heightened by the use of collage elements. Earthy colors shine through multiple layers of text, texture and drawings, bringing light and dimension to slightly abstract compositions.
Bright colors in my florals come from paint, papers, maps, music, old books, and even dried rose petals. I use handmade papers over acrylic underpainting, layering papers and glazing with paints. Sometimes the white edge of torn papers become part of the compositions.
